Ryan Sheckler and The State of The Game

I’ve been noticing a trend lately. The trend of a group mentality that is following and plaguing the kids of today. They like to follow rather than lead, and they like to get autographs from celebrities who may not be worth celebrating. Case in point, the recent skyrocketing popularity of Ryan Sheckler. He has a tv show, sponsorships by many different companies, and a fan following that had people around the block at a recent Etnies autograph signing. Is this deserved? In a way, maybe, he’s a good skateboarder and represents a somewhat different approach to the whole skateboarding world than say….Duane Peters. (a very opposite and maybe unfair extreme) Recently I was looking at a blog and noticed that theres shots from a photographer named Rob Brink and it illustrated the unfortunate event. I’m not sure what’s the big deal with the kid is, but I’m tired of the over reaching media coverage on the guy, and now I’m helping push it forward with this entry. As for business though, Snowboard Connection does offer Ryan Sheckler decks from Plan B, Bones Wheels, and all sorts of other skate products with the Sheckler branding. If you like Sheckler, maybe purchase some of his stuff and save a little dough. The kid’s got game, I must admit that.
