It’s Planned…I Think

October 9, 2007 | Category: Video, skateboarding, falls

In 1998 a wrestling match crossed mainstream American homes in a way that no other had done in the past. At least not in the era of “entertainment”. Mick Foley vs. The Undertaker inside a steel cage probably forces most people to shut the browser, move on, or stop reading, but before you decide to do that consider my thoughts on the matter this morning.

We are snowboarders, we are skateboarders, we are surfers, and we take things to the extreme. We jump off docks, we throw ourselves down sets of stairs with kinked hand rails, forcing metal to hit metal for a 5 second slide and we take our bumps and bruises as badges of honor. We are cheered for when we make it, and revered when we fall, and instead of trying to come up with a video of some skater, surfer, or snowboarder doing what he does best, I decided to post this video. It’s different, but conveys the same message somehow. Although it might be reaching far too much to be relevant, I think that we can see sparks of hope in the actions, and not the commentary. Sure wrestling is fake, but sometimes the real world around us is definitely more fake. So today, let us celebrate the unreal, because reality has us sitting 9 to 5 surrounded by felt walls, and that’s not where we’d rather be.
